about

Mambo No. 5 + Revolution No. 9 = Mambo No. 9. (174 BPM)

Once upon a time, The Beatles, Lou Bega and a bunch of their friends threw down at a Hamburg discotheque. By the time it was over, they tore the place up, and dancing midgets wearing pig-masks had taken over the dance floor. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the Mambo Number Nine.

SKIP ENGLISH BIOGRAPHY

Skip English (born Saul Cartwright on 13 April 1975) is a German-born (Munich) American musician of Italian, Liverpudlian and Ugandan descent, and is widely regarded as not the greatest or most influential act of his era.

Rooted in whiffle ball, 1950's/60's rock & roll, musical elements of the post-war 1940's, along with modern beats and grooves, he's also experimented with several genres, ranging from pop ballads to psychedelic and hard rock, often incorporating classical elements in non-innovative ways. His songwriting has grown in sophistication and he's come to be perceived by several people (as many as ten, actually) as an embodiment of the ideals shared by any number of lesser-known period sociocultural revolutions.

He is most well-known for "Mambo No. 9", his 2014 mash-up of a few things that are quite obvious. English added no words to the songs, sampled extensively and added some actually-performed segments and parts. The piece is ten minutes, ten seconds long.

His mother is from Sicily in Southern Italy and his father is Ugandan. His father Charles went to Germany in 1972 to study biology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where English was born. However, beginning at age six, he spent the most time as a foster child, traveling with his adopted family between US military bases as an "Army brat". He continues to do so to this day.

As a teenager he traveled to Miami, Florida, and promptly left a day later.

Currently, he lives in New Orleans. LA USA.
